Inside SCA's Last Mile - Uncovering Sales Opportunities

Dan McCarthy runs SCA's Northeast district. Seven locations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, and most of the work happens after dark, in parking lots that have to be clean before the stores open.

His district came to Route4Me late. Everyone else at SCA was already on it. The platform he was leaving worked off addresses with no map behind it, so nobody could actually see where a stop sat in relation to the next one. Once the whole district was plotted, the empty space told him something the address list never could.

A thin route is expensive. It is also a target. Dan pinpoints the area, hands it to the sales team, and the work they win turns that same route into a dense one. The trucks cover more customers, the drivers spend less time driving between them, and the crew size never changes.

He also knows where every truck is all night.
